The EU’s most biodiverse regions are located in its overseas territories – their conservation is urgent. To this end, the EU Commission has launched the BEST initiative to preserve biodiversity in these areas. The programme is coordinated by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). With over 1,400 member organisations and around 15,000 experts, the IUCN is the world’s leading expert on the state of nature and effective conservation measures. The BestLife2030 programme promotes projects by government and civil society actors that contribute to the conservation of biodiversity in the EU’s overseas territories.
A new visual identity
flmh developed a new logo, a consistent visual identity and an interactive website for IUCN. The basis for this was a clear understanding of the target groups and their needs. To this end, flmh first analysed the websites of the predecessor programmes of BESTLife2030 and comparable initiatives and sharpened the design style in two workshops. Together with the client, flmh then defined the guidelines for the visual identity and the central website functions – and then tested both.
One design system for all requirements
flmh developed the logo for BestLife2030, a corporate design with defined fonts and colors as well as templates for office, print and social media. At the same time, a website was created with a project directory, interactive map and filter functions for around 200 projects worldwide. There, interested parties, partners and donors can discover current projects as well as success stories from previous programs. For the first time, all projects of the BEST initiative are bundled centrally, user-friendly and clearly categorised.
